Overview
We are seeking a hands-on AWS Technical Lead for a six-month contract focused on managing a significant datacentre exit programme. The role involves leading the migration of production environments from VMware-based infrastructure to AWS, collaborating closely with engineering teams to assess and enhance existing tooling and automation. This position emphasizes practical technical leadership, decision-making, and support during critical migration and cutover activities across multiple workloads, ensuring minimal disruption to customer services.
Responsibilities
- Take technical ownership of datacentre-to-AWS migrations across multiple production environments.
- Work directly with engineering teams to plan, build and execute migrations.
- Review existing infrastructure, tooling and automation to determine production readiness.
- Improve, extend or rebuild automation where gaps are identified.
- Provide hands-on technical leadership across parallel migration workstreams.
- Make practical decisions around migration sequencing and technical risk.
- Support and guide engineering teams with varying AWS experience.
- Lead migration rehearsals and production cutovers.
Requirements
- Strong hands-on AWS engineering experience in complex production environments.
- Proven experience in delivering datacentre-to-cloud migrations.
- Technical ownership experience from discovery and planning through to cutover.
- Strong knowledge of VMware and traditional datacentre infrastructure.
- Hands-on experience with Terraform, Ansible or equivalent automation tools.
- Strong understanding of networking, DNS, data movement and rollback planning.
- Experience coordinating or technically leading multiple engineering teams.
- Clear communication skills with engineers and senior stakeholders.
