Overview
We are seeking a Data Architect to lead the transformation of a data platform for a large UK organization. The contractor will be responsible for designing the target architecture, overseeing the migration from Oracle to Snowflake, and establishing data governance standards, working closely with engineering leads and stakeholders to ensure practical implementation.
Responsibilities
- Design the target data architecture, including lakehouse and warehouse patterns.
- Own the migration strategy from Oracle to Snowflake, managing sequencing and risk.
- Set modelling conventions and governance practices for the data team.
- Collaborate with engineering leads and stakeholders to ensure efficient design implementation.
- Facilitate the establishment of data flow standards across the platform.
- Utilize AI tooling to enhance data engineering processes.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with regulations regarding data lineage and governance.
- Document architecture and migration processes for future reference.
Requirements
- Proven experience in architecting scalable data platforms, specifically with Snowflake.
- In-depth knowledge of lakehouse and warehouse design as well as dimensional modelling.
- Hands-on experience executing Oracle to Snowflake migrations.
- Familiarity with working in regulated environments emphasizing data lineage and governance.
- Experience designing for AI-assisted engineering and using AI tools in workflows.
- Bonus: Knowledge of dbt, AWS, and background in financial services or asset finance is preferred.
