Overview
We are seeking a Data Engineer with expertise in Microsoft Fabric to enhance a rapidly growing data consultancy's capabilities in modernizing enterprise Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing. The contractor will play a pivotal role within a team focused on migrating and redeveloping existing data assets to a unified, next-generation Fabric platform, collaborating closely with solution architects, BI developers, and business stakeholders to drive transformation and deliver significant value.
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration and redevelopment of existing BI/DW assets into Microsoft Fabric.
- Redesign data models, warehouses, and lakehouse structures to support analytics, reporting, and scalable downstream consumption.
- Build and optimise ETL/ELT pipelines using SQL, Python, and Fabric Data Factory.
- Develop tables, views, stored procedures, and functions within modernised Fabric-based environments.
- Ensure data quality, lineage, governance, and performance best practices across both lakehouse and warehouse workloads.
- Produce high-quality technical design specifications for data solutions.
- Collaborate with solution architects, BI developers, and business stakeholders to ensure smooth migration processes.
Requirements
- Demonstrable experience within Data Warehousing in Business Intelligence environments (both on-premises and cloud).
- Strong SQL Server skills including T-SQL, stored procedures, views, tables, and functions.
- Proven ETL/ELT experience, ideally with Azure Data Factory.
- Experience with Microsoft Fabric or Databricks is highly desirable.
- Understanding of modern data architectures, including lakehouse principles.
- Ability to write clear, maintainable technical and design specifications.
