Overview
We are seeking a Data Governance Specialist to join our team on a contract basis for a duration of 6 months. This role will focus on defining and implementing data governance frameworks and policies, catering to critical project work for a government client. The ideal candidate will have a strong consultancy background and experience in public sector transformation projects, with an immediate availability to start.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement data governance frameworks, policies, and operating models.
- Establish data ownership, stewardship, and accountability structures.
- Set governance standards for attributes, metadata, and data lifecycle management.
- Ensure traceability between policy, risk, controls, and technical implementation.
- Support compliance, audit, and assurance activities.
- Facilitate governance workshops and decision-making forums.
- Drive consistency across multiple projects, organizations, and stakeholders.
- Produce governance artifacts, standards, processes, and reporting.
Requirements
- Proven experience defining cross-organization data-sharing agreements.
- Knowledgeable in establishing attribute/policy-based access control and translating it into enforceable conditions.
- Familiarity with government security standards, including Technology Code of Practice and UK GDPR.
- Experience in establishing data ownership, stewardship, and metadata practices.
- Understanding of UK data protection legislation and controls (UK GDPR, DPA 2018).
- Strong understanding of data governance, risk, and compliance principles.
- Ability to collaborate closely with business and technical stakeholders.
- Excellent stakeholder management and workshop facilitation skills.
