Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Governance Specialist for a 6-month contract focused on delivering secure and scalable data-sharing infrastructure across various sectors. The role involves collaborating with multiple workstreams to establish and embed data governance frameworks, data standards, and compliance controls that enhance operational capabilities in a major public-sector digital transformation initiative. The position supports a complex multi-organisational environment, requiring strong stakeholder management and compliance knowledge.
Responsibilities
- Define and implement data governance frameworks, policies and operating models.
- Define data ownership, stewardship and accountability structures.
- Establish governance for attributes, metadata, data standards and lifecycle management.
- Ensure traceability between policy, risk, controls and technical implementation.
- Support compliance, audit and assurance activities.
- Facilitate governance workshops and decision-making forums.
- Drive consistency across multiple projects, organisations and stakeholders.
- Produce governance artefacts, standards, processes and reporting.
Requirements
- Proven experience in defining cross-organisational data-sharing agreements.
- Strong understanding of UK data protection legislation and controls (e.g., UK GDPR, DPA 2018).
- Experience with Government security standards such as Technology Code of Practice and NCSC guidance.
- Knowledge of data governance, risk and compliance principles.
- Ability to collaborate closely with business and technical stakeholders.
- Proficiency in establishing data ownership, stewardship, and metadata management practices.
- Experience in Digital Identity and Access Management (IAM) is desirable.
- Familiarity with governance frameworks such as DAMA-DMBOK or ISO 27001 is a plus.
