Overview
The Development Team Lead will provide technical leadership and mentorship to a skilled development team focused on enhancing public-facing services for a public sector client. This role will involve rapid development of Java and Spring Boot microservices while working with cloud technologies, particularly AWS. The individual will collaborate closely with team members to achieve key organizational objectives related to modernization and cost reduction over an initial six-month period.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to the development team.
- Mentor junior staff and facilitate knowledge transfer sessions.
- Oversee the development and modernization of Java and Spring Boot microservices.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in testing, including TDD and unit testing.
- Collaborate with the team to meet legislative requirements and organizational goals.
- Work with cloud technologies, specifically AWS, to optimize service delivery.
- Engage in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to team members.
- Monitor project progress and adjust strategies as necessary to achieve objectives.
Requirements
- Proven experience building and modernizing Java and Spring Boot microservices.
- Knowledge of public cloud technologies, with a preference for AWS.
- Experience with test-driven development (TDD) and unit testing tools.
- Demonstrated ability to lead within engineering teams, especially in government projects.
- Familiarity with JavaScript and industry best practices.
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and facilitating knowledge transfers.
- Knowledge of Terraform, TypeScript, AuroraDB or MySQL, and Linux shell scripting is advantageous.
- Understanding of government security control requirements is a plus.
