Overview

The Field Engineer - Telecommunications will support the installation, maintenance, and assurance of critical communications networks throughout Scotland. Working within a skilled engineering team, the contractor will be instrumental in delivering telecommunication infrastructure for essential national utility services while ensuring high quality, safety, and customer service standards are met.

Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, and maintain telecommunications network infrastructure.
  • Provide first-line fault response and network assurance activities.
  • Support project delivery alongside engineering and project management teams.
  • Diagnose and resolve network faults across various communication technologies.
  • Complete preventative maintenance and routine inspection activities.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and project records.
  • Monitor project progress and escalate technical risks as needed.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota to support critical network services.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Telecommunications, Network, or Field Engineer.
  • Strong installation, commissioning, and maintenance experience within telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Excellent understanding of IP networking, including LAN, WAN, and MPLS technologies.
  • Experience supporting routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of telecommunications transmission technologies such as SDH, PDH, and microwave radio.
  • Familiarity with Cisco, Alcatel, or similar networking platforms.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Full UK driving licence is essential.
