Overview
The Field Engineer - Telecommunications will support the installation, maintenance, and assurance of critical communications networks throughout Scotland. Working within a skilled engineering team, the contractor will be instrumental in delivering telecommunication infrastructure for essential national utility services while ensuring high quality, safety, and customer service standards are met.
Responsibilities
- Install, commission, and maintain telecommunications network infrastructure.
- Provide first-line fault response and network assurance activities.
- Support project delivery alongside engineering and project management teams.
- Diagnose and resolve network faults across various communication technologies.
- Complete preventative maintenance and routine inspection activities.
- Maintain accurate technical documentation and project records.
- Monitor project progress and escalate technical risks as needed.
- Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota to support critical network services.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Telecommunications, Network, or Field Engineer.
- Strong installation, commissioning, and maintenance experience within telecommunications infrastructure.
- Excellent understanding of IP networking, including LAN, WAN, and MPLS technologies.
- Experience supporting routing, switching, and network troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of telecommunications transmission technologies such as SDH, PDH, and microwave radio.
- Familiarity with Cisco, Alcatel, or similar networking platforms.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Full UK driving licence is essential.
