Overview
We are seeking a skilled Field Engineer to provide and assure activities for critical utilities infrastructure across Scotland. This hands-on role involves installing, commissioning, maintaining, and troubleshooting essential IP and telecom equipment. The engineer will work closely with clients to ensure seamless operations while providing 24/7 assurance coverage.
Responsibilities
- Install and commission DC chargers, PDH, SDH, Comtel, Microwave radio, and IP networking equipment.
- Erect EMC cabinets, power racks, and install containment such as cable trays and trunking.
- Terminate and wire SWA, CAT5, and multi-pair copper cables.
- Configure Cisco and Alcatel switches/routers and IP telephony systems.
- Test protection services and bearers (PDH, SDH, IP LAN/WAN).
- Perform routine maintenance on battery chargers, fiber optics, pilot cables, and radio systems.
- Conduct site surveys, risk assessments, and produce detailed handover documentation.
- Provide first-line support and troubleshooting across IP and telecoms infrastructure.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a telecoms field engineer, particularly with DC chargers, PDH, SDH, Comtel, and Microwave radio.
- Strong knowledge of Cisco and Alcatel routing and switching products.
- Experience with LAN/WAN internetworking and IP networking (WAN, LAN, MPLS).
- Familiarity with high-voltage substation environments (11kV to 400kV).
- Possession of a full UK Driving Licence.
- Desirable authorisations including SPEN Authorisations (WI-2, EN-1) and National Grid Authorised certification.
