Overview
The Field Engineer will focus on supporting critical telecoms and networking infrastructure across Central Belt Scotland. This hands-on position involves direct fieldwork related to installation, commissioning, maintenance, and first-line assurance activities within utility environments, ensuring the smooth delivery of telecoms and network infrastructure projects. The contractor will collaborate with various stakeholders and adapt to a 24/7 operational context, working around an 8-hour day, five days a week.
Responsibilities
- Support installation and commissioning of telecom and networking infrastructure.
- Conduct maintenance and fault finding on key utility telecommunication systems.
- Implement first-line assurance activities across strategic networks.
- Document processes and provide updates to stakeholders on project status.
- Operate effectively in varied field environments across Scotland.
- Adapt work schedule to meet 24/7 support requirements.
Requirements
- Proven experience in field engineering within telecoms, networks, or utilities environments.
- Strong background in installation and commissioning of network systems.
- Knowledge of routing, switching, WAN, LAN, and MPLS technologies.
- Experience with telecoms equipment such as SDH, PDH, or microwave radio.
- Familiarity with Cisco or Alcatel products.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills are essential.
