Overview

The Geospatial Data Architect role involves collaborating with a major UK Government Agency to establish and oversee data models, standards, and architectural frameworks for a national geospatial and land data ecosystem. This contract position emphasizes designing governance structures that support data platform modernization and basemap development, requiring deep expertise in geospatial data architecture and standards. The successful candidate will engage with various stakeholders to influence national data strategy effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop conceptual, logical, and physical data models for geospatial and land data using EA Sparx.
  • Define data standards, schemas, and metadata frameworks to ensure consistency and interoperability.
  • Design solutions that differentiate between live, validated, and historical datasets.
  • Conduct gap analyses between existing datasets and new platform requirements.
  • Design integration points, APIs, and interoperability standards, including OGC-based solutions.
  • Evaluate data governance maturity and recommend improvements to data stewardship and quality management.
  • Collaborate with cloud and solution architects to design secure and efficient data storage solutions.
  • Document the current and future data landscapes, including data models and governance processes.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in designing geospatial data architectures for large enterprise or public sector projects.
  • Proficiency in EA Sparx for data modeling and documentation.
  • Deep understanding of geospatial data standards, including ISO 19115, INSPIRE, and GEMINI.
  • Knowledge of coordinate reference systems, topology, geometry validation, and data lineage.
  • Experience in conducting data quality assessments and implementing governance frameworks.
  • Strong skills in stakeholder engagement and familiarity with structured architecture governance models.
  • Eligibility for BPSS security clearance.
