Overview
The Head of Civil Engineering will provide technical leadership and strategic direction for civil engineering projects within the water infrastructure sector. This role involves mentoring engineers, influencing engineering standards, and ensuring the delivery of high-quality projects while collaborating closely with design leads and project managers. The position is ideal for a Chartered Engineer with extensive experience in the UK water industry, seeking to make a substantial impact in a dynamic consultancy environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the civil engineering design across a portfolio of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Review and approve design deliverables, technical reports, specifications, and Design Risk Assessments.
- Develop practical and efficient engineering solutions based on project requirements and site investigations.
- Provide technical guidance to project teams throughout the design lifecycle.
- Ensure design changes are effectively controlled and documented.
- Act as the technical authority for the Civil Engineering discipline across the business.
- Mentor and develop engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.
- Drive continuous improvement in engineering processes and quality assurance.
Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status with a degree or HND in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 10 years' design experience within the regulated UK water industry.
- Strong knowledge of water and wastewater engineering systems.
- Proven track record in delivering both infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects.
- Excellent technical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, engineering standards, and drawing practices.
- Experience in hydraulic calculations and designs.
- Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
