Overview
The Interim Tax Manager will join a global media organization on a 6-month contract to oversee VAT reporting and compliance within the UK Controllership team. This role involves improving VAT processes and reporting accuracy while acting as the primary liaison for HMRC during audits. The contractor will engage closely with both financial and non-financial teams, providing training and advisory support regarding VAT matters.
Responsibilities
- Review and correct VAT debtor and creditor transactions within the ERP system.
- Finalise Q3 2025 VAT declaration and prepare Q4 2025 VAT return.
- Amend and resubmit Q1 and Q2 FY2025 VAT returns, including full-year reconciliation for 2025.
- Conduct retrospective reviews for FY2024 VAT filings.
- Strengthen VAT processes and controls, contributing to training materials for finance and non-finance teams.
- Act as primary contact for HMRC during audits and inquiries.
- Provide VAT advisory support on transactions and new projects.
- Identify risk areas, minimise liabilities, and explore tax planning opportunities.
Requirements
- Expert knowledge of UK VAT (non-UK VAT experience advantageous).
- Qualified accountant (ACA, CTA or equivalent) with post-qualification experience.
- Background in large, complex organisations with multi-jurisdictional exposure.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with advanced Excel capability.
- Confident communicator able to simplify complex issues for non-finance stakeholders.
- Experience in process transformation, automation, and change management.
- Familiarity with Workday or similar ERP systems desirable.
