Overview
We are looking for an experienced Java Developer to join our client's team on a six-month contract basis, focusing on enhancing and supporting customer-facing products for the public sector. This role offers the opportunity to work primarily remotely with occasional visits to the Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, contributing to impactful digital solutions that meet high standards of quality and usability. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in software development, agile practices, and AWS cloud technologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Continuously enhance customer-facing product portfolios based on user feedback to improve usability and functionality.
- Develop and support applications aligned with product and architecture roadmaps, focusing on digital sustainability.
- Demonstrate sustainable and high-quality software development practices producing maintainable artifacts.
- Participate actively in team events, supporting process improvements through inspection and adaptation.
- Engage with wider communities to share knowledge, techniques, and experiences for continuous learning.
- Ensure high-quality solutions through comprehensive unit testing and code analysis using standard tools.
- Troubleshoot development and production issues across modern AWS stacks and legacy systems.
- Mentor and coach team members to enhance team capability and knowledge sharing.
Requirements
- Proven experience with Java 11+ and Python 3 in a professional setting.
- Hands-on experience with Spring Boot and Python Flask microservices.
- Strong skills in JavaScript UI frameworks, particularly React, along with HTML and CSS.
- Familiarity with OpenShift and modern DevOps practices including CI/CD pipelines and Docker.
- Experience with relational databases like Postgres and NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
- Knowledge of AWS services such as Lambda, S3, and CloudFormation is desirable.
- Understanding of service-based architectures and human-centered design practices.
- Proficiency with testing frameworks and telemetry tools like Grafana.
