Overview
We are seeking a Java Backend Engineer for a 6-month contract role in a hybrid environment, where the candidate will collaborate within an Agile Scrum team to rebuild a large-scale platform from Python to a modern Java microservices architecture. The selected engineer will be involved in delivering production-quality code and enhancing system performance by integrating with multiple external systems across international markets.
Responsibilities
- Develop production-quality Java backend services.
- Build scalable REST APIs.
- Deliver features every sprint within an Agile Scrum team.
- Migrate functionality from Python into Java.
- Build integrations with external partner platforms.
- Participate in code reviews.
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineers.
- Write clean, maintainable, testable software.
Requirements
- Strong commercial experience developing backend applications using Java 17/21 and Spring Boot.
- Proven background building REST APIs, microservices, and scalable distributed systems.
- Cloud Platform experience across GCP, AWS, or Azure.
- Experience with SQL databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
- Hands-on software engineer with a passion for writing clean, production-quality code.
- Experience working within Agile Scrum teams, contributing to sprint planning, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Understanding of software engineering best practices focused on maintainability and testing.
- Strong communication skills with confidence to collaborate and challenge ideas.
