Overview
The Lead Civil & Structural Engineer will play a critical role in managing civil and structural engineering activities for a major project within the nuclear sector. Working within a hybrid arrangement, they will lead a multidisciplinary team, ensuring technical excellence, safety, and compliance throughout the project lifecycle. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to significant infrastructure projects that support the UK's energy security and nuclear goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of civil and structural engineering design packages from concept through to detailed design and construction support.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Review and approve engineering calculations, specifications, reports, drawings, and design documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with relevant legislation, codes, standards, and project requirements.
- Coordinate interfaces with other engineering disciplines, project management teams, and external stakeholders.
- Manage technical risks, design changes, and engineering queries throughout project execution.
- Support design reviews, constructability assessments, and value engineering initiatives.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers while promoting engineering best practices.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Chartered Engineer status (CEng) or working towards chartership.
- Significant experience delivering complex civil and structural engineering projects within highly regulated industries such as nuclear, defence, energy, pharmaceuticals, or similar sectors.
- Strong understanding of UK design standards, Eurocodes, and engineering governance processes.
- Experience leading engineering teams and coordinating multidisciplinary design activities.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Security Clearance (SC).
