Overview
In this key leadership role, the Principal Structural Engineer will offer technical direction for major infrastructure projects within regulated sectors in the UK. Collaborating closely with project managers and design leads, the successful candidate will mentor emerging engineers while influencing best practices and engineering standards across the organization. This opportunity combines hands-on engineering expertise with strategic oversight in a dynamic consultancy environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development of efficient and buildable structural engineering solutions.
- Review and approve design deliverables, technical reports, and Design Risk Assessments.
- Produce innovative structural solutions tailored to project requirements and site conditions.
- Provide technical leadership throughout the design lifecycle across multidisciplinary teams.
- Coordinate design changes and ensure they are effectively documented.
- Conduct design reviews, technical workshops, and client meetings.
- Mentor and develop junior engineers, graduates, and CAD technicians.
- Assess technical competency and support the professional development of engineering teams.
Requirements
- Chartered Engineer (CEng) status required.
- Degree or HND in Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
- At least 10 years of structural design experience at Senior or Principal Engineer level.
- Experience in delivering projects within regulated infrastructure sectors such as Water, Rail, or Nuclear.
- Strong understanding of structural engineering standards and design practices.
- Proven experience in multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Excellent technical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Valid UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle.
