Overview
We are seeking an experienced Network Engineer to provide onsite support during a firewall migration project in Lerwick, Scotland. The successful contractor will focus on the physical installation of firewall appliances and collaborate with remote teams to ensure a successful implementation. This role requires hands-on expertise in network hardware and dispatch support, available during standard business hours.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite Smart Hands support during firewall migration activities.
- Install and rack firewall appliances following customer guidelines.
- Perform hardware mounting, cabling, power connections, and connectivity checks.
- Coordinate with remote Network Engineers for a smooth implementation.
- Assist with troubleshooting and implementation tasks during the maintenance window.
- Verify physical connections and equipment status pre- and post-migration.
- Support basic network patching, cable management, and equipment labeling.
- Escalate any hardware or site issues promptly to the appropriate teams.
Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of experience as a Network Engineer or Field Network Support Engineer.
- Hands-on experience in providing onsite Dispatch / Smart Hands support.
- Proficiency in installing network hardware in racks.
- Familiarity with firewall deployments and migration activities.
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP networking, VLANs, routing, and switching.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently.
- Preferred: Experience with firewalls from vendors like Fortinet, Palo Alto, or Cisco.
- Relevant networking certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are advantageous.
