Overview

The Optimisation Engineer will be at the forefront of developing a next-generation optimisation engine for a workforce scheduling platform. This role involves designing and building advanced optimisation models to address complex scheduling challenges, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to improve system performance and scalability. As part of a high-growth software company, the engineer will play a crucial role in reshaping the core product’s capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement optimisation models for workforce scheduling and rostering.
  • Evaluate and benchmark various optimisation approaches, including CP-SAT, MIP, and hybrid methods.
  • Build systems that ensure feasible schedules while continuously enhancing schedule quality.
  • Develop production-grade optimisation services and APIs.
  • Translate complex business rules and regulations into configurable optimisation models.
  • Collaborate with engineering, product, and implementation teams to address real-world scheduling challenges.
  • Contribute to shaping the long-term optimisation architecture and technical direction.

Requirements

  • Commercial experience in building and deploying optimisation systems.
  • Strong background in operations research, optimisation, algorithms, or applied mathematics.
  • Expertise with solver technologies such as OR-Tools, Gurobi, CPLEX, or similar.
  • Proficient in software engineering, especially in Python, with knowledge of Java, Kotlin, C#, or C++.
  • Experience with scheduling, rostering, routing, or combinatorial optimisation problems.
  • Familiarity with workforce scheduling, nurse rostering, or transport optimisation is particularly relevant.
