Overview
The Platform Engineer will focus on building and standardizing RHEL environments within AWS for a public sector organization. Working in a hybrid arrangement, the contractor will collaborate with traditional infrastructure teams to enhance capability and implement best practices in Linux administration and security. A key aspect of the role includes supporting knowledge transfer to the Service Delivery team while optimizing storage and performance.
Responsibilities
- Build and standardize RHEL 8/9 environments across AWS.
- Implement OS hardening and security baselines aligned with CIS/STIG.
- Develop automated solutions for configuration and patching using Ansible and AWS SSM.
- Design and implement monitoring and logging integrations with CloudWatch.
- Optimize storage solutions and system performance.
- Establish repeatable and scalable operating models for Linux workloads.
- Support knowledge transfer and skill development within the Service Delivery team.
- Create clear engineering documentation and provide mentorship on best practices.
Requirements
- Proven experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL 8/9) in enterprise environments.
- Ability to translate cloud architecture designs into workable solutions including infrastructure and security.
- Solid understanding of Linux system administration principles.
- Experience with OS hardening and security practices.
- Familiarity with AWS for operating RHEL and Windows workloads, including system hardening and automation.
- Strong knowledge of patch management using yum/dnf and automation tools.
- Experience with monitoring, logging, and troubleshooting Linux systems in production.
- Practical knowledge of networking concepts and integration with Active Directory (SSSD/LDAP).
