Overview

The Power BI Consultant will play a pivotal role in enhancing the analytics capabilities of a large organization within the insurance sector. Working closely with insurance-focused stakeholders, the consultant will lead Power BI delivery efforts while mentoring analysts to ensure best practices and high-quality reporting. This 6-month hybrid contract will require a blend of hands-on technical expertise and strategic guidance in a regulated environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end Power BI delivery, from data preparation and modelling to the creation of user-friendly dashboards.
  • Act as a hands-on technical lead while coaching and mentoring analysts.
  • Identify capability gaps within the analytics team and design practical upskilling approaches.
  • Champion best practices across data modelling, DAX, and visual design.
  • Guide reporting migration efforts from Qlik to Power BI as needed.
  • Collaborate independently with stakeholders to spot improvement opportunities and deliver effective solutions.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience delivering Power BI solutions in production environments.
  • Extensive experience in the insurance sector with a solid grasp of insurance data and regulatory considerations.
  • Deep expertise in Power Query (M) and DAX with a focus on best-practice development.
  • Proven ability to create intuitive data visualizations and business-friendly dashboards.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Fabric and Power BI's integration capabilities.
  • Confident SQL skills and experience managing complex data sources.
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching and mentoring analytics professionals.
  • Excellent communication skills to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
