Overview

We are seeking a Principal Control & Instrumentation Engineer to lead design elements on a significant Front End Engineering Design (FEED) project within the nuclear sector. This hybrid role involves technical leadership combined with hands-on design production, managing resources, and ensuring compliance and quality while acting as a liaison for the Control & Instrumentation team and the client. The successful candidate will mentor junior engineers and manage project delivery, addressing complex technical challenges and ensuring the project's alignment with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute key elements of Control & Instrumentation (C&I) design across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Specify and design Safety Instrumented Systems according to IEC standards.
  • Conduct Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments and develop functional safety cases.
  • Produce comprehensive control system designs, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Ensure all C&I design deliverables meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage project reporting, including KPIs and risk management.
  • Provide technical mentoring and support to junior engineers.
  • Engage with clients on technical matters and manage technical interfaces across teams.

Requirements

  • Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (2:1 or above) or equivalent experience.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status.
  • Minimum 12 years of C&I engineering experience across full project lifecycle.
  • Expertise in Safety Instrumented Systems design to IEC 61511 and IEC 61508 standards.
  • Proven line management experience with the ability to mentor and develop engineers.
  • Strong knowledge of ATEX requirements and CE marking compliance.
  • Ability to manage project budgets and resources effectively.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills across disciplines.
