Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Project Engineer / Technical Lead to oversee the pre-construction and design coordination for multiple HV grid connection projects within a renewable energy portfolio in the north of Scotland. This role involves managing consultant performance and ensuring engineering readiness while providing valuable contributions from both a technical and strategic perspective. The successful candidate will initially collaborate on-site in Scotland before transitioning to a fully remote work arrangement with periodic attendance for site or office duties.

Responsibilities

  • Lead coordination of design consultants to ensure timely and compliant design outputs.
  • Manage and track RFIs (Requests for Information), design queries, and technical clarifications.
  • Conduct design progress and risk reduction meetings to maintain alignment with programme milestones.
  • Act as the technical interface between the client, consultant, and internal project teams.
  • Support tendering activities and contribute to constructability reviews and technical evaluations.
  • Provide ongoing engineering input as projects move from design into construction.
  • Ensure all technical deliverables meet regulatory and client standards.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in electrical / HV project engineering (transmission, grid connection, or renewables).
  • Strong understanding of design coordination, interface management, and technical delivery.
  • Competence in reviewing and managing design documentation for HV systems and protection schemes.
  • Confident in managing design consultants and driving accountability for progress and quality.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Familiarity with SSE, SPEN, or National Grid design and delivery standards is advantageous.
