Overview
We are seeking a Senior Python Backend Engineer for a fully remote, six-month contract role that may extend based on performance. In this position, the contractor will integrate with a core engineering team to design, build, and enhance production systems used by enterprise clients across Europe. The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with senior engineers and company leadership, taking ownership of backend services and ensuring their reliability and performance.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement production services and APIs using Python frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
- Build and optimize data models, queries, and storage solutions across Postgres, Redis, and similar technologies.
- Ensure scalability of services through effective caching, queuing, and asynchronous processing strategies.
- Manage deployment processes and establish monitoring protocols to maintain service reliability and performance.
- Collaborate with product and engineering teams to deliver solutions in fast-paced development cycles.
- Participate in technical discussions and provide guidance as a senior technical voice within the team.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years focused on Python backend systems.
- Proven experience in building and scaling production APIs and services.
- Strong understanding of Python backend frameworks (FastAPI, Django) and database technologies (Postgres, Redis).
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and familiarity with containerization and CI/CD pipelines.
- Background in startup or product company settings, equipped to navigate ambiguity effectively.
