Overview

We are seeking a Safety-Critical Systems Engineer / Subsystem Engineer for a 6-month contract focusing on the development and integration of complex safety-critical subsystems in a regulated engineering environment. The role requires collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and offers opportunities for contribution to system design, safety analysis, and verification activities, with occasional travel to sites in the UK. Candidates with backgrounds in aerospace, defence, unmanned systems, or similar fields are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design, development, and integration of safety-critical subsystems within a complex platform environment.
  • Contribute to requirements definition, interface management, functional decomposition, and system-level design activities.
  • Support the development of safe and robust system architectures, including safety logic and fault tolerance.
  • Contribute to hazard analysis, risk assessment, and system safety activities.
  • Identify failure conditions, propose hazard mitigations, and support verification strategies.
  • Support qualification and verification activities like environmental testing and safety validation.
  • Engage with suppliers, evaluate components, and participate in technical reviews as required.
  • Produce technical documentation and safety-related artefacts in line with programme requirements.

Requirements

  • Experience in aerospace, defence, unmanned systems, or safety-critical engineering environments.
  • Strong understanding of structured systems engineering and safety engineering methods.
  • Experience in subsystem design, requirements capture, and verification planning.
  • Ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong technical documentation and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with a pragmatic engineering approach.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical engineering standards is advantageous.
