Overview
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with expertise in data architecture to help a client in the retail and gaming sector. The consultant will focus on reverse-engineering existing data systems, transforming undocumented knowledge into a structured and well-documented operating model, and will collaborate mainly with senior engineers to enhance the data integration process. This role combines independent technical work with stakeholder engagement, ensuring a sustainable documentation framework is developed.
Responsibilities
- Conduct independent deep-dive discovery and code reviews to map data flow from Retail systems into the data warehouse.
- Produce high-level and granular architecture diagrams showcasing cloud resources, ETL/ELT pipelines, and third-party integrations.
- Author operational runbooks for troubleshooting, restart, and maintenance of critical pipelines.
- Audit and document the SQL logic behind key retail metrics to ensure reporting consistency.
- Design a lightweight, maintainable documentation framework using Confluence or Markdown for the team.
Requirements
- Proven experience in reverse-engineering data systems with limited or no existing documentation.
- Strong hands-on experience with SQL Server and AWS Lakehouse architecture.
- Expert-level ability to produce clear and structured architecture diagrams.
- Ability to work independently while engaging senior engineers constructively and collaboratively.
