Overview
The Senior PHP Developer will take the lead in a critical legacy cleanup initiative as part of a major digital transformation for an established business. Working within a standalone role, this contractor will audit and decommission legacy PHP systems, ensuring a seamless transition for the incoming platform engineering team. They will collaborate with various stakeholders while focusing on untangling complex code structures and preparing existing systems for decommissioning.
Responsibilities
- Audit and map out existing legacy PHP applications, identifying key business logic and database dependencies.
- Safely decouple and decommission legacy modules without disrupting live business operations.
- Create concise, high-level technical documentation to guide the incoming platform team.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders to ensure a clean, risk-free handover.
Requirements
- MUST be physically based in and hold the right to work in the UK.
- Proven experience in legacy decommissioning, including auditing and untangling complex systems.
- Strong hands-on expertise in native/core PHP, including legacy versions, server-side architecture, and API integration.
- Ability to work with unstructured code and missing documentation, providing clarity and order to complex codebases.
- Experience in mapping business logic and dependencies for platform transition without hindering operations.
