Overview

We are looking for a Senior User Researcher to lead user research initiatives for a high-profile government programme focused on advanced AI and LLM-powered services. The contractor will be responsible for ensuring user needs are effectively captured and integrated into the design of these innovative products, working closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to prioritize accessibility and compliance. This position offers a blend of strategic leadership and hands-on research, requiring a strong understanding of both qualitative and quantitative methods.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the planning, design, and execution of user research activities for AI/LLM-powered services.
  • Apply mixed-methods research to capture user needs, behaviours, and expectations.
  • Evaluate and recommend approaches for training data collection from a user-centred perspective.
  • Test AI/LLM model outputs against user requirements and accessibility standards.
  • Collaborate with AI engineers, designers, and product teams to implement research findings.
  • Prototype and test new human-AI interaction patterns to ensure transparency and trust.
  • Champion inclusive research practices focusing on accessibility and privacy.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops and community assessments in user research.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience as a User Researcher, particularly in digital services or emerging technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with AI/LLM products or data-driven services.
  • Strong knowledge of qualitative and quantitative research methods and statistical analysis.
  • Ability to evaluate AI/LLM model performance from a user-centred perspective.
  • Skilled in presenting complex findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience within government or regulated environments is desirable.
  • Strong understanding of accessibility, privacy, and safeguarding requirements in digital services.
