Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior SQL Server DBA to lead a significant SQL Server modernisation programme. The successful contractor will work closely with the transformation team to upgrade a critical SQL estate and modernise legacy applications, ensuring a smooth transition across the database platform. This hands-on role requires a strong focus on designing and implementing resilient backup and disaster recovery solutions.
Responsibilities
- Lead the migration of SQL Server from 2019 to 2025 across the organisation.
- Design and implement backup and disaster recovery strategies using Azure technologies.
- Modernise legacy applications in conjunction with database upgrades.
- Ensure database security, encryption, and auditing processes are in place.
- Tune SQL performance and optimize query execution plans.
- Utilize Change Data Capture (CDC) and Change Tracking (CT) for data management,
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project milestones are met.
- Provide expertise in managing and maintaining SQL Server environments.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA.
- Proficiency with SQL Server versions 2014 to 2025.
- Strong experience with Always On Availability Groups.
- Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale SQL version migrations.
- Knowledge of SQL performance tuning and Query Store functionalities.
- Experience with Azure Blob Storage and backup solutions.
- Familiarity with Change Data Capture (CDC) and Change Tracking (CT).
- Understanding of database security, encryption, and auditing best practices.
