Overview
The SSRS Developer will play a key role in maintaining and enhancing existing SSRS reports on SQL Server while supporting the migration of these reports to Amazon Redshift. Working collaboratively with the Data Engineering team, the contractor will troubleshoot issues, manage report deployments, and ensure accurate reporting data during this migration process. This position is a hybrid role involving both on-site and remote work over a six-month contract period.
Responsibilities
- Amend, maintain and enhance existing SSRS reports on SQL Server.
- Troubleshoot report defects, data discrepancies, and performance issues.
- Manage report deployment, scheduling, and subscriptions in SSRS.
- Support migration of SSRS reports/data sources from SQL Server to Redshift, including query conversion, testing, and validation.
- Validate migrated reports against existing outputs for accuracy.
- Document specifications, changes, and migration decisions.
- Liaise with Data Engineering on underlying data model/infrastructure dependencies.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with SSRS development and maintenance.
- Strong proficiency in T-SQL, including queries, stored procedures, views, and optimization.
- Experience gathering requirements directly from business stakeholders.
- Understanding of report design principles such as parameters, subreports, and data-driven subscriptions.
- Exposure to SQL Server administration and reporting infrastructure.
- Familiarity with Redshift migration processes or general exposure to Redshift.
- Understanding of T-SQL vs Redshift SQL (PostgreSQL) differences and migration pitfalls.
- Experience in regulated industries with awareness of data protection and InfoSec practices is desirable.
