Overview
The Mechanical Design Engineer will play a crucial role in the development of innovative solutions for the marine industry, focusing on pre-production projects. This contractor will collaborate with various engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical designs, while also driving quality and performance from inception to delivery. With an immediate start available, this position requires a detail-oriented engineer passionate about design and development.
Responsibilities
- Account for full systems from inception to delivery, ensuring function, quality, and performance.
- Conduct detailed analysis of design requirements and specifications to develop mechanical design solutions.
- Utilise CAD software to create detailed 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components.
- Substantiate designs using analytical methods and simulation tools to validate integrity and safety.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure integration of mechanical designs with other system elements.
- Conduct material selection and evaluation for maritime technology solutions.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation throughout the design and development process.
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
- Strong expertise in 3D modelling software such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes relevant to maritime technology.
- Experience with material selection for marine environments, including corrosion mitigation technologies.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for marine systems.
- Experience designing for class approval of machinery and mechanical systems against Lloyd's or DNV-GL.
- Understanding of pneumatic systems design and complex mechanical linkages.
- Ability to obtain BPSS clearance and right to work in the UK.
