Overview
We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to play a pivotal role in the design, development, and support of scalable, cloud-native backend applications for a leading retailer. This position operates primarily in a hybrid model with two days onsite in central London, and the engineer will collaborate closely with agile teams to deliver high-performance microservices and APIs for a next-generation fulfilment platform. This opportunity presents a chance to contribute to a significant greenfield project while driving engineering best practices and mentoring junior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of scalable cloud-native applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build high-performance microservices and APIs.
- Implement event-driven architectures leveraging Kafka for real-time data processing.
- Optimize and support mission-critical production systems using PostgreSQL and Couchbase.
- Utilize cloud services, particularly Azure, and manage Docker and Kubernetes environments.
- Ensure CI/CD pipelines are effectively utilized for smooth deployments.
- Mentor junior engineers and promote best engineering practices within the team.
- Participate in agile ceremonies and own software throughout the development lifecycle.
Requirements
- Extensive commercial experience in enterprise application development with Java and Spring Boot.
- Proven track record in designing and delivering high-throughput distributed microservices.
- Strong experience with event-driven architecture using Kafka.
- Expertise in PostgreSQL and Couchbase in production settings.
- Familiarity with cloud technologies, particularly Azure, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for efficient development processes.
- Solid understanding of software design principles and scalable architectures.
- Previous experience mentoring engineers and advocating engineering best practices.
