Overview
The AS/400 Administrator will provide expert support and maintenance for critical IBM i environments on a freelance, retained basis. This contractor will work remotely with occasional travel to the client's Manchester office, ensuring the integrity and performance of the IBM i systems through effective administration and collaboration with third-party vendors as needed.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain IBM i (AS400) systems.
- Manage system security, backups, PTFs, and OS upgrades.
- Monitor performance and system health.
- Support job scheduling, storage, and disaster recovery.
- Troubleshoot IBM i infrastructure and applications.
- Maintain documentation and liaise with third-party vendors as required.
Requirements
- Strong IBM i / AS400 / iSeries administration experience.
- Proficient in IBM i 7.x, CL scripting, and security management.
- Experience with BRMS and backup and recovery processes.
- Knowledge of TCP/IP networking, FTP/SFTP, and DB2 for i.
- Familiarity with PTF management and OS upgrades.
- Experience with High Availability solutions (PowerHA, MIMIX, or similar) is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and travel to the client's office as required.
