Commissioning Manager

Overview

The Commissioning Manager will spearhead the commissioning of a 275kV XLPE cable system as part of a significant net zero project in Teesside. This role involves taking complete ownership of the commissioning process, working closely with a multidisciplinary team of OEMs, contractors, and testing providers. The successful candidate will lead the end-to-end commissioning strategy and ensure all interfaces with the National Grid are effectively managed throughout the project lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the commissioning strategy and programme from readiness planning to energisation.
  • Oversee the execution of testing, analyze results, and address any discrepancies.
  • Manage the National Grid interface, including outage planning and the energisation process.
  • Develop and review ITPs, commissioning procedures, SAT documentation, and the final handover pack.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team across OEMs and specialist testing providers.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and operational standards during commissioning activities.

Requirements

  • Proven commissioning experience at transmission voltage (275kV or 400kV) on cable systems.
  • Previous role as a Commissioning Engineer or Commissioning Lead/Manager.
  • Extensive knowledge of EHV cable systems, including joints, terminations, bonding, and earthing.
  • Direct experience with National Grid commissioning, outage management, and energisation processes.
  • Possession of TP141, BP141, SAP or equivalent transmission authorisations.
  • Current authorisations will influence placement within the pay scale.
