Overview
The Lead EHV Commissioning Engineer will oversee the commissioning of a 275kV XLPE cable system, playing a crucial role in one of the UK's largest net zero projects. The engineer will be responsible for developing commissioning strategies, leading tests, and interfacing with the National Grid, working closely with a multidisciplinary team throughout the commissioning and energisation processes.
Responsibilities
- Own the end-to-end commissioning strategy and programme from planning to energisation.
- Lead testing procedures, analyse results, and identify issues as they arise.
- Manage the National Grid interface and coordinate outage planning.
- Prepare and maintain ITPs, commissioning documentation, and final handover packs.
- Collaborate with OEMs, principal contractors, and specialist testing providers.
- Directly engage in site-based commissioning activities during energisation windows.
- Coordinate remote planning and documentation activities as necessary.
Requirements
- Proven experience in commissioning at transmission voltage (275kV or 400kV) on cable systems.
- Previous role as Commissioning Engineer, Lead, or Manager.
- In-depth knowledge of EHV cable systems, including joints, terminations, bonding, and earthing.
- Experience with National Grid commissioning, outage, and energisation processes.
- Holders of TP141, BP141, SAP or equivalent transmission authorisations are preferred.
- Strong technical documentation and reporting skills.
