Overview
The Lead Design Engineer will oversee the electrical design aspect across key high voltage (HV) infrastructure projects in the UK energy sector. This contracted role, lasting six months, requires providing technical leadership, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and facilitating communication with clients and internal teams. The contractor will play a pivotal role in the delivery of major transmission and distribution projects aimed at supporting the UK's energy infrastructure and Net Zero goals.
Responsibilities
- Lead the technical delivery of electrical design across multiple HV/EHV infrastructure projects.
- Provide guidance and oversight to electrical, civil, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Review and approve engineering deliverables to ensure they meet client specifications.
- Act as the primary technical liaison with clients and stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Address complex technical challenges and facilitate informed engineering decisions.
- Coordinate design activities to meet program, quality, and commercial goals.
- Support design assurance and value engineering initiatives.
- Provide technical assistance during procurement, construction, and project handover phases.
Requirements
- Proven experience in electrical design, particularly in Primary Design or Protection & Control within the UK's transmission or distribution sector.
- Demonstrated capability in leading the delivery of multiple concurrent electrical design projects.
- Strong knowledge of compliance standards relevant to the power infrastructure industry.
- Experience collaborating with Transmission System Operators (TSOs), Distribution Network Operators (DNOs), and major utility clients.
- Excellent communication skills and competence in stakeholder management.
- Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment.
