Lead FPGA Engineer

Overview

We are seeking a Lead FPGA Engineer to support the development and verification of intricate electronic systems in an aerospace engineering context. This hybrid contract role involves hands-on FPGA design, implementation, and verification, and is suitable for engineers with varying strengths in the FPGA lifecycle. The ideal candidate will have extensive FPGA/VHDL experience, particularly in safety-critical or high-integrity environments, and will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver complex aerospace projects.

Responsibilities

  • Lead FPGA design and development activities.
  • Implement and verify FPGA solutions according to project requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure project alignment and success.
  • Conduct simulation, debugging, and performance analysis of FPGA components.
  • Apply requirements-driven engineering processes for FPGA development.
  • Provide support in the integration of FPGA with other electronic hardware.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant safety-critical development standards.
  • Contribute to verification planning, coverage analysis, and evidence generation.

Requirements

  • Strong commercial FPGA engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in VHDL/RTL design and verification.
  • Experience with FPGA development tools like Xilinx or Intel/Altera.
  • Understanding of controlled development processes and requirements decomposition.
  • Familiarity with safety-critical development standards such as DO-254.
  • Knowledge of FPGA simulation and debugging techniques.
  • Experience in working within multidisciplinary electronics and systems teams.
  • Ability to hold SC Clearance as a sole British national.
