Overview
We are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer for a contract position who will play a crucial role in developing innovative applications for the marine industry. The selected contractor will be responsible for overseeing mechanical design projects from inception to delivery and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure effective system integration. This role requires a passion for design and a strong technical background in mechanical engineering, particularly within the maritime domain.
Responsibilities
- Account for full systems from inception to delivery, focusing on function, quality, and performance.
- Conduct detailed analysis of design requirements and specifications to develop innovative mechanical solutions.
- Utilize CAD software to create accurate 2D drawings and 3D models of mechanical components.
- Validate mechanical designs using analytical methods and simulation tools like FEA software.
- Collaborate with electrical engineers and naval architects for seamless integration of designs.
- Perform material selection and evaluation considering various engineering factors.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation including specifications and engineering drawings.
Requirements
- Proven expertise in 3D modeling software, such as Inventor or SolidWorks.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, particularly in the maritime technology sector.
- Experience with material selection and corrosion mitigation technologies for marine applications.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards, specifically in design for class approval by Lloyd’s or DNV-GL.
- A degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are advantageous.
- Understanding of pneumatic systems and complex mechanical linkages.
