Business Intelligence Engineer

Overview

The Business Intelligence Engineer will focus on constructing data models and analytics frameworks to enhance financial planning, reporting, and investment decisions within a leading investment firm. Collaborating closely with finance and investment stakeholders, the engineer will interpret complex financial data into structured models suitable for analysis and reporting. This role operates in an evolving Azure environment, embracing modern data architectures and transformation tools to improve data usability and quality.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build scalable data models that support FP&A, financial reporting, forecasting, and management analysis.
  • Collaborate with finance and investment stakeholders to translate data requirements into analytical models.
  • Transform complex data from multiple sources into usable, reporting-ready datasets.
  • Develop SQL-based workflows and data warehouse models for reports and dashboards.
  • Model financial and investment data across various domains, including loans and real estate.
  • Create data structures that integrate actuals, forecasts, and operational measures for performance analysis.
  • Enhance existing data warehouse structures and reporting processes for improved data quality and documentation.
  • Contribute to the development of new analytics capabilities while modernizing existing systems.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in financial planning and analysis (FP&A) within asset management or investment contexts.
  • Strong SQL skills with extensive experience in building analytical data models.
  • Deep understanding of data warehousing principles and dimensional modelling.
  • Ability to transform poorly structured source data into effective reporting models.
  • Experience engaging with finance stakeholders and understanding financial metrics such as actuals and forecasts.
  • Background in financial services, particularly in asset management, real estate, or private credit.
  • Familiarity with Azure-based data platforms is essential; dbt experience is a plus.
  • Demonstrated capability in evolving data platforms beyond mere maintenance of existing reports.
