Overview
The Server Migration Engineer will play a critical role in a large-scale infrastructure separation programme, focusing on complex server migrations across multiple environments. This position involves collaboration with various teams to execute and manage missions centered around Windows Server and Active Directory, directly contributing to the success of the project in a live, high-demand setting.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute server migrations across Windows environments, including domain-to-domain moves and Active Directory domain separations.
- Manage pre and post-migration validation across application servers, identity dependencies, DNS, DHCP, and network connectivity.
- Utilize Azure IaaS, Virtual Networks, and hybrid management tools to support hosted workloads.
- Provide immediate support on failed migrations, restoring normal operations rapidly.
- Drive automation and configuration management using PowerShell and relevant tools.
- Contribute to project documentation, including runbooks and change control, while communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- Deep experience in Windows Server administration (2016 to 2022) including configuration and decommissioning.
- Demonstrable expertise in Active Directory migration processes such as domain-to-domain moves and trust relationships.
- Strong knowledge of Azure IaaS, including management of Virtual Networks and Private DNS.
- Experience in separation or carve-out scenarios is advantageous.
- Solid understanding of networking, including VLANs, VPNs, and certificate management.
- Ability to operate effectively in 24/7 high-availability environments with minimal downtime tolerance.
- Prior experience with M&A separations or large-scale data center migrations is desirable.
- Some exposure to Linux environments is beneficial but not the primary focus.
