Overview
A well-established cloud consultancy is seeking a Principal AWS Cloud & Platform Architect to enhance their senior technical leadership for an initial 3-month contract. The successful candidate will be responsible for shaping and governing complex cloud, platform, and application modernization solutions, ensuring they align with business outcomes while maintaining secure, scalable, and cost-effective architectures. The role involves collaboration with engineering teams, guiding projects from initial design to delivery, primarily focused on AWS solutions with an eye towards multi-cloud integrations.
Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture of complex AWS solutions from discovery through to detailed design.
- Define target-state, transition, and migration architectures, including hybrid and multi-cloud integrations.
- Design landing zones, shared platform services, and cloud-native environments using Kubernetes, Amazon EKS, and Docker.
- Guide application modernization efforts through microservices, APIs, event-driven patterns, and serverless architecture.
- Set infrastructure-as-code standards using Terraform and Helm, and architect CI/CD and GitOps approaches.
- Promote platform engineering practices, including self-service capabilities and automated policy enforcement.
- Design end-to-end observability solutions using OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, Grafana, and the Elastic Stack.
- Act as a senior technical authority in client workshops and governance forums, and mentor architects and engineers.
Requirements
- Substantial experience in senior cloud, platform, DevOps, or infrastructure architecture roles, particularly with complex enterprise designs.
- Deep knowledge of AWS services, including networking, security, compute, containers, and integration.
- Strong experience with Kubernetes and container platforms, especially Amazon EKS.
- Proven ability with Terraform, Helm, CI/CD pipelines, and automated cloud provisioning.
- Experience designing observability frameworks across metrics and logs, with knowledge of OpenTelemetry.
- Familiarity with AI platform components and model gateway technologies; knowledge of LiteLLM is a plus.
- Ability to produce clear architecture documentation and decision records.
- Experience in client communications and facilitation at the senior stakeholder level.
