Embedded Software Contractor

Overview

The Embedded Software Contractor will join a project team focused on developing embedded Linux firmware for target hardware platforms such as OMAP and iMX6. This role involves close collaboration with engineers to implement and integrate software components, ensuring compatibility with existing systems while resolving technical issues that arise during the firmware development process. The contractor will also produce essential documentation throughout the project lifecycle, contributing to a dynamic R&D environment with a potential for a long-term contract.

Responsibilities

  • Develop embedded Linux firmware for target hardware platforms, including kernel configuration and device driver enablement.
  • Implement software for platform bring-up and peripheral integration, such as UART, SPI, I2C, and PCIe.
  • Integrate firmware with existing software components and ensure system compatibility.
  • Investigate and resolve technical issues related to firmware and hardware/software interactions.
  • Produce supporting artefacts including design documentation, test specifications, and release notes.
  • Deliver embedded Linux firmware components, updated software modules, and appropriate documentation.
  • Provide evidence of testing and validation across various levels (unit, integration, system).

Requirements

  • Proven experience in embedded Linux firmware development.
  • Familiarity with hardware platforms such as OMAP and iMX6.
  • Strong skills in kernel configuration and device driver development.
  • Experience with software integration and resolution of hardware/software interaction issues.
  • Ability to produce comprehensive design and test documentation.
  • Candidates must be eligible for a BPSS check.
