Overview
We are seeking a contract Engineer to support an Energy Tech start-up in developing their proof of concept. The successful contractor will lead the architecture and development of a critical backend integration layer, working independently but with guidance from the founders. This position requires expertise in event-driven systems and is focused on building robust solutions that interact with external APIs.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement the event-driven integration layer with external partner APIs.
- Design and build retry, idempotency, and reconciliation logic.
- Create a pluggable decisioning engine with safety guardrails.
- Ensure high-volume telemetry ingestion and data processing.
- Work independently on backend architecture with oversight from the founders.
- Collaborate with the team to refine product requirements and functionalities.
Requirements
- Proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or TypeScript.
- Experience with AWS cloud services.
- Knowledge in connected-devices, DERMS/VPP, smart charging, or industrial IoT.
- Prior experience with backend architecture and integration logic.
- Ability to work with unreliable external APIs and state reconciliation.
