Overview
We are seeking an experienced Environments Manager to oversee and optimize our software environments including Development, Testing, UAT, Staging, and Production. In this role, you will act as the main contact for all environment-related initiatives, ensuring engineering teams have the resources needed to build and deploy quality software efficiently. The position requires collaborating closely with various teams and managing cloud providers and tooling vendors to enhance performance and cost-effectiveness while maintaining compliance with security standards.
Responsibilities
- Create a complete inventory of environments, owners, administrators, and lifecycle status.
- Define ownership, approval routes, accountability, and decision-making processes for environment management.
- Review access permissions and ensure compliance with security and audit requirements.
- Establish ownership of environment costs and maintain financial reporting.
- Introduce standard processes for environment management including creation, onboarding, and decommissioning.
- Develop dashboards and KPIs to monitor environment health and costs.
- Act as an escalation point for outages or performance issues, coordinating resolution efforts.
- Promote automation and self-service capabilities to streamline environment provisioning.
Requirements
- Proven experience in IT Environment Management, Release Management, or IT Operations within a software-driven organization.
- Strong understanding of cloud-native infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
- Experience with ITIL frameworks and managing Role-Based Access Control.
- Solid knowledge of cloud cost management and budget optimization.
- Ability to analyze data and produce actionable information for stakeholders.
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills, capable of engaging both technical and business leaders.
- Experience in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) or similar defence environments is a plus.
