Overview
We are looking for a Freelance Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team for a live construction project in the London area. This full-time, predominantly site-based role involves managing defined subcontract packages and overseeing various commercial workstreams with guidance from senior team members. The ideal candidate will bring substantial contractor-side experience, allowing them to handle projects independently and ensure accurate management of commercial information.
Responsibilities
- Procure subcontract packages, including scope preparation and tender enquiries.
- Manage the commercial aspects of allocated packages from procurement through to final account.
- Assess subcontractor applications and prepare payment information.
- Manage variations, change control, and maintain related commercial records.
- Prepare cost reporting and contribute to monthly commercial reporting.
- Maintain contractual correspondence, notices, and supporting records.
- Identify and manage commercial risks and opportunities.
- Attend relevant project and subcontractor meetings, communicating with operational and procurement teams.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor within a UK main-contractor environment.
- Experience in managing subcontract packages with some degree of independence.
- Solid understanding of subcontract procurement, valuations, and final accounts.
- Practical knowledge of construction contracts and commercial procedures.
- Strong numerical, analytical skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and meet reporting deadlines.
- Relevant quantity surveying or construction qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
