Overview
The Lead Commissioning Manager will oversee commissioning activities for major data centre projects across the UK, ensuring the effective integration and delivery of all mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems. This role will involve collaboration with various stakeholders including commissioning teams, engineers, subcontractors, and clients to maintain project schedules and quality standards throughout the commissioning process.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the overall commissioning strategy from pre-commissioning through to final handover.
- Develop and oversee commissioning programmes, schedules, procedures and documentation.
- Coordinate commissioning managers, engineers, subcontractors, vendors, consultants and client representatives.
- Lead the commissioning of critical MEP systems across the data centre environment.
- Oversee testing, commissioning, witnessing, fault finding and system validation activities.
- Coordinate Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and ensure all critical systems operate as an integrated facility.
- Review and approve commissioning procedures, test scripts, test packs and technical documentation.
- Manage commissioning milestones and ensure alignment with the project programme.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Lead Commissioning Manager or Commissioning Manager in large-scale data centre or mission-critical projects.
- Strong understanding of MEP systems, including electrical distribution, HV/LV systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS, generators, BMS, HVAC and cooling systems.
- Experience managing Integrated Systems Testing (IST) and complex commissioning programmes.
- Expertise in coordinating multidisciplinary teams across electrical, mechanical, controls and specialist systems.
- In-depth knowledge of data centre commissioning processes, testing methodologies and operational readiness.
- Experience with large-scale hyperscale, colocation or mission-critical data centre projects.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills to effectively work with clients, consultants, contractors and senior project teams.
- Relevant electrical, mechanical or engineering qualifications preferred.
