Microsoft 365 Security Consultant

Overview

The Microsoft 365 Security Consultant will be responsible for enhancing the security posture of a growing boutique finance house by delivering a comprehensive hardening plan for their Microsoft 365 tenant. This role entails working closely with a technical managing director to configure and document best practices across key security components including Entra ID, Intune, Defender, Purview, and Sentinel within a modern Azure environment. The consultant will drive the project from start to finish, ensuring that security measures are effectively implemented and integrated.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a detailed hardening plan for Microsoft 365 security components.
  • Implement best practices for Entra ID, Intune, Defender, Purview, and Sentinel.
  • Collaborate with the technical managing director for project alignment and strategy.
  • Configure security settings and compliance measures within a cloud-first environment.
  • Document security processes and create an as-built pack and runbooks for handover.
  • Manage SharePoint and OneDrive permissions, access control, and integration models.
  • Roll out Conditional Access and privileged access management solutions.
  • Monitor and report on security compliance and alerting using Sentinel and Log Analytics.

Requirements

  • Proven experience in a cloud-native environment, specifically with Microsoft 365.
  • Recent, hands-on experience with Entra ID and Intune.
  • Familiarity with Conditional Access, Privileged Identity Management, and app governance.
  • Demonstrated capability in configuring Defender for Endpoint and DLP solutions.
  • Strong knowledge of PowerShell and automation tools in Azure.
  • Experience delivering a Microsoft 365 tenant baseline independently.
  • Familiarity with SaaS applications and Azure Functions.
  • Exposure to financial services or regulated environments is advantageous.
