Overview
The Obsolescence Engineer will play a key role in a specialist engineering team focused on managing obsolescence risks associated with complex military systems and equipment. This contract position involves collaborating with engineering, supply chain, procurement, and customer stakeholders to identify, assess, and develop strategies for mitigating obsolescence issues across various products and systems within a leading Defence organization.
Responsibilities
- Manage and support obsolescence activities in accordance with the programme Obsolescence Management Plan (OMP).
- Investigate component, equipment, and system obsolescence issues raised through change requests and engineering queries.
- Assess the technical, operational, and commercial impacts of obsolescence risks.
- Develop and recommend mitigation strategies, including redesign, alternative sourcing, and technology refresh options.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and solution documentation to support engineering decisions.
- Engage with stakeholders to gather information needed to resolve obsolescence challenges.
- Support engineering change activities and ensure compliance with contractual requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of obsolescence management processes and best practices.
Requirements
- Experience in Obsolescence Management, Component Engineering, Lifecycle Management, or Engineering Change.
- Strong technical investigation and problem-solving skills.
- Experience performing risk assessments and developing mitigation plans.
- Ability to analyze technical data, drawings, specifications, and Bills of Materials (BOMs).
- Experience producing technical reports and customer-facing documentation.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Understanding of configuration management and engineering change processes.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain appropriate UK security clearance.
