Overview
The Operability Engineer will play a pivotal role in managing expectations and collaborating with stakeholders and team members, focusing on building software that is maintainable and supportable by the customer. This position requires the engineer to mentor client team members, communicate technical concepts effectively, and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, adapting to dynamic environments. This contract position lasts for 6 months and may involve work across multiple locations including London, Birmingham, or Manchester, starting as soon as possible.
Responsibilities
- Influence, collaborate, and manage expectations with stakeholders and the team.
- Build software with a focus on customer support and maintenance.
- Provide support and mentorship to client team members.
- Communicate technical concepts clearly to varied audiences.
- Demonstrate problem-solving skills and adaptability to changing environments.
- Deliver small pieces of work continuously, aiming for rapid production release.
- Understand and apply appropriate branching strategies in development workflows.
- Support and maintain production software environments effectively.
Requirements
- Open to pair or mob programming within cross-functional teams.
- Proficient in programming languages and coding, capable of building automated test services.
- Strong automation skills, including experience with unit and automated testing tools.
- Experience with CI tools such as Jenkins, Gitlab, and Github Actions.
- Solid understanding of Linux and/or Windows operating systems and command-line usage.
- Familiarity with cloud computing providers, including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
- Experience with infrastructure provisioning tools like Terraform and CloudFormation.
- Knowledge of telemetry practices and their associated tools for monitoring and alerting.
