Overview
The Programme Director will oversee the transition from a single outsourcing model to a multi-vendor model for a UK general insurer, primarily focused on motor and property. This role requires taking full accountability for the existing project plan, driving delivery within a compressed timeline, and maintaining high standards of control amidst regulatory scrutiny. The Programme Director will collaborate closely with the COO and present updates directly to the executive team and Board.
Responsibilities
- Own delivery to time, cost, and quality metrics while ensuring the integrity of reporting.
- Rebaseline the existing plan into a credible, resource-aligned critical path.
- Establish programme structure, PMO, governance, and controls suitable for lean operations.
- Build and lead the core project team and manage the budget effectively.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory demands and maintain communication with the Board and regulators.
- Develop a value-for-money case for the outsourcing transition.
Requirements
- Extensive experience in the UK general insurance sector, including underwriting, claims, and regulatory reporting.
- Proven track record in leading insurance data warehouse/platform migrations.
- Experience managing complex, multi-million-pound technology or data programmes, particularly in outsourcing transitions.
- Strong vendor and commercial management skills, including experience with major consultancies.
- Ability to articulate and justify decisions to a Board-level audience under pressure.
- Familiarity with UK insurer outsourcing regulations and operational resilience.
