Overview
We are seeking a skilled RF Lab Test Engineer to support a variety of RF, EMC, and compliance testing activities within a specialist UK RF engineering consultancy. In this hands-on contract role, the engineer will be responsible for setting up and conducting precise measurements while collaborating on complex engineering projects. The position covers a range of sectors, providing exposure to advanced RF technologies and testing environments.
Responsibilities
- Set up and run conducted and radiated RF measurements.
- Operate spectrum analysers, VNAs, signal generators, power meters, and oscilloscopes.
- Perform RF characterisation, including S-parameters, VSWR, return loss, insertion loss, gain, noise figure, and P1dB.
- Calibrate and verify VNA and RF test setups.
- Conduct RF and EMC compliance testing.
- Execute prototype PCB soldering, rework, and modification.
- Build test fixtures, RF cable assemblies, and adaptors.
- Capture and process RF/IQ and spectrum data, supporting test automation using Python/SCPI.
Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years' hands-on experience in an RF, microwave, or EMC test environment.
- Strong practical knowledge of RF measurement techniques.
- Proficient in using VNAs, spectrum analysers, signal generators, and power meters.
- Experience with RF test setup calibration and verification.
- Good soldering and PCB rework skills, including fine-pitch SMD.
- Ability to read schematics, test specifications, and block diagrams.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate technical documentation.
- UK right to work status; experience with 5G NR, Wi-Fi, radar, and MIL-STD-461G or ISO/IEC 17025 is advantageous.
